Weather Synopsis for Wednesday & Sunday

An upper level ridge will move over the area today leading to dry and eventually mostly sunny conditions across much of the region. Warmer air aloft will attempt to work inland over the mountains with mixed results. High pressure causes sinking motion and will trap some low clouds and cooler air for low and mid elevations across the north and central Cascades. Winds below crest level will be light and will not induce much mixing of the lower atmosphere. Higher freezing levels are forecast for the south Washington Cascades and Mt. Hood, where the layer of milder air between 6000-9000' is more pronounced. Even in areas with higher freezing levels, expect temperature inversions with cooler temperatures from mid-mountain down. Along the west slopes of the Cascades, low level clouds will give way to sunshine in the afternoon, especially south of Snoqualmie Pass. Mostly sunny conditions are expected along the east slopes of the Cascades and near Mt. Hood.

A frontal system will approach the region from the NW tonight. Generally light precipitation will reach the Olympic peninsula during the morning hours and spread to the Washington Cascades in the afternoon. Clouds will increase and lower during the day as snow levels begin to lower with the onset of precipitation.
