Weather Synopsis for Tuesday night through Sunday
A weak front is causing some light showers this afternoon but has mostly resulted in an increase in cloud cover across much of the region. Scattered light showers should dissipate overnight along the west slopes of the Cascades. Strong winds seen at Cascade crest-level and more generally in the Mt. Hood area and along the east slopes of the Cascades south of Hwy 2 will begin to back off later tonight as a weak upper level ridge moves over the area.
Upper level ridging will once again cause temperature inversions in some, but not all areas as warmer air offshore attempts to work its way inland on Wednesday. Light winds and a still weak February sun will not help mix the lower atmosphere. Above freezing temperatures are most likely to affect elevations above 6000' for the south Washington Cascades and Mt. Hood area on Wednesday. Low level clouds along the west slopes and Passes should give way to sun by Wednesday afternoon, more so for the south Cascades and less so in the north. The Mt. Hood area and along the east slopes of the Cascades should see more sun in general on Wednesday.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Sunday night through Sunday
A Puget Sound Convergence Zone may form quickly Thursday evening behind the cold front but it will be the trailing upper level shortwave that really invigorates showers along the west slopes of the Cascades and to a lesser extent the Olympics and Mt. Hood area. Showers and cool snow levels should pile up moderate new snow accumulations for these areas through mid-day Friday. Showers should become lighter and more scattered in the afternoon.
The weather pattern is active over the holiday weekend but the storm track is far from settled. It's unclear if a developing low pressure system spreads warm frontal precipitation inland Friday night and Saturday, or if the low curls toward Vancouver Island Saturday, waiting to deliver significant precipitation until Saturday night. Stay tuned as we get closer to the weekend.
