Weather Synopsis for Tuesday night through Friday
There are a few key items to take note of in the short term forecast: precipitation near Mt Hood, an eastern Cascade snow event, cold temperatures, and windy conditions. A deep trough over the region and a low-pressure system passing to our south will dominate our short-term weather impacts into Thanksgiving day.
The low-pressure system moving into Oregon will focus precipitation in the Mt Hood area Tuesday night through Wednesday. You could encounter scattered showers in areas of the Washington Cascades and the Olympics Tuesday night. The moisture associated with this system should move east by early Wednesday morning. Easterly winds, combined with available moisture, will create conditions for an upslope snow event in areas east of the Cascade crest. It can be difficult to forecast these eastern Cascade upslope events and the weather models aren't helping much. We're finding quite a bit of variation between models and locations. While the exact amount of precipitation may be uncertain, all the pieces should be in place. You may find quite a bit of variability in the amount of snow from area to area and even slope to slope.
Cold air will continue to pour into the region from the north. This will keep snow levels very low and precipitation should fall as low-density snow. Even though the water amounts appear modest, snow totals could add up quickly with these cold temperatures. The same trough that is pulling in cold air will drive offshore winds. Expect windy conditions even at lower elevations Wednesday night through Thursday. Moderate to strong east winds could make conditions feel extremely cold and produce sub-zero wind chill values.
On Thursday, we expect precipitation and winds to decrease and you should find cold and dry conditions in their place.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Friday night through Friday
The cold dry pattern should set-in on Thursday and stay with us into the weekend. A strong high-pressure ridge in the pacific will deflect any approaching weather systems. The models begin to show this ridge breaking down on Saturday into Sunday, but we'll want to wait and see how that pans out.
