Weather Synopsis for Monday night through Friday

A broad trough sits over the region and deepens throughout the forecast period. The moist WNW flow that brought some accumulating snows to our mountains Sunday night and Monday shifts slightly NWerly Monday night. The moist flow begins to weaken and reduce snow shower activity Monday night, but not before areas such as Mt Hood and the Central and Southern Washington Cascades pick up a bit more snow out of convective showers and weakening convergence zone activity.

A rapidly strengthening storm aims for the southern Oregon coast on an unusual track from the NW on Tuesday.  The storm will increase clouds across the region late Monday night and then the precipitation shield likely spreads into the SW Washington Cascades and Mt. Hood region on Tuesday afternoon. Winds will switch easterly on Tuesday and increase throughout the day.

Moderate to heavy snow is possible for the Mt. Hood region Tuesday night as the trough centers on south-central Oregon, with light to Moderate snow accumulating along ridgelines east of the Cascade Crest of Washington. Light to locally moderate upslope snow could continue Wednesday as strong E and NE winds blow Tuesday night through Wednesday and will be particularly strong east of the Cascade Crest. The Cascade Passes are not expected to get much if any snow out of this event, but Mt. Hood could see upwards of 1 foot of snow with Mission Ridge picking up notable totals as well.
