Weather Synopsis for Monday & Wednesday

A high-pressure wedge over the region on Monday morning will be pushed south as a sharp front approaches from the NW during the day on Monday. The front should bring a windy day to the mountains of NW Washington (particularly the North Cascades and Olympics) before spreading rain and snow to those same regions. Monday will be the warmest day our region has experienced in well over a month, but with reasonably dry air in place and cooling associated with the front, snow levels will rapidly lower as moisture arrives.

The frontal rain/snow band will spread across the mountains of Washington State, pushing rain and snow into the Mt. Hood area late in the night. Winds will generally peak in the moderate gusting strong range overnight with low-level winds switching from SSW to W with the frontal passage. Up to close to an inch of snow water equivalent is possible in areas favored by SSW flow, such as Paradise and Mt. Baker, but significant accumulations throughout our forecast region.

W or NW flow behind the front on Tuesday will continue light to moderate rain and snow continuing behind the front and then focusing more on regions of convergence late in the day with a NW flow. Regions of convergence appear to be just south of Snoqualmie Pass and near Stevens Pass. Some areas of convergence are likely to experience moderate to heavy snow. Snow levels will be well below pass level on Tuesday.
