Weather Synopsis for Sunday night through Friday
The weak low pressure system that traversed along the Oregon and Washington border has exited stage right, leaving the region with showers rotating in the broad cyclonic (counter clockwise) circulation over western Washington. Showers will wind down overnight, but the next low pressure system off the Oregon coast will take a very similar track on Monday. Areas closer the Canadian border may completely clear out tonight.
Offshore easterly winds will ramp up once again tonight in this pattern, with moderate east winds expected from the central Cascades down to Mt. Hood. As this low moves inland, the upper level trough is expected to dig offshore and may allow to precipitation up further north. Most forecast models continue to point to the steady snowfall staying south over the south Washington Cascades and Oregon.
Light snow showers will once again wind down Monday night. A stretched out E-W upper level trough over the region with no developing low pressure systems will lead to a rather benign day of weather. Afternoon cumulus and the stray shower may build in the afternoon. Throughout this period, temperatures will remain well below normal.
