Weather Synopsis for Sunday & Friday

Light to moderate snowfall from a developing low pressure system continues to affect Mt. Hood and the far south Washington Cascades this morning. With the jet stream positioned into Oregon over the next few days, steadier precipitation delivered by low pressure systems will stay along this southern track. Further north, showers are circulating counter-clockwise over western Washington under the influence of an upper level low.

While areas north of Snoqualmie Pass won't see much accumulation, showers should be more substantial for the southwest Washington Cascades this afternoon through early evening as the weak surface low tracks inland. Upslope enhancement along the east slopes of the Cascades will also squeeze out a few inches of low density snow today. Easterly winds in the light to moderate range this morning from Stevens Pass and to White Pass should back off in the afternoon. More sunbreaks are likely over the far north furthest from the low.

Leftover showers should decrease this evening with a drying and clearing trend over Washington State. The next low pressure system in a similar storm track will begin to spread light snow over Mt. Hood late Sunday night through Monday morning.  Steady precipitation should once again stay largely out of Washington State except for the far southern Cascades. Another period of light to moderate easterly winds is likely Monday morning.
