Weather Synopsis for Monday & Monday
An upper level ridge offshore will slide east of the Cascades this afternoon, quickly transitioning the area from our wet weekend to dry and warm weather on Monday. This will be a dirty ridge, with a fair amount of high clouds slipping underneath and creating some filtered sunshine. Freezing levels will soar to 7000 feet in the north and 10,000 feet in the south over Mt. Hood this afternoon. Enjoy today because the weather pattern turns and stays active through next weekend. A deep upper level low in the NE Pacific will send a number of Pacific frontal systems our way over the next few days.
Tonight, the air mass will begin fairly dry and clouds should slowly lower overnight with light rain and snow developing during the morning hours on Tuesday. A rapidly developing low pressure system forming along the existing frontal boundary will curl toward Vancouver Island on Tuesday. This will bring a round of locally stronger southerly winds to the Olympics and northwest Cascades through at least early afternoon. Showers should generally become light and scattered in the afternoon as a cooling trend ensues. Locally heavier showers should be seen in the Mt. Baker area in this pattern.
Scattered showers will continue Tuesday night as another Pacific frontal system approaches the area.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Monday night through Monday
Wednesday's frontal system will have a similar track as Tuesday's, curling north of Vancouver Island and sending showers into the region and once again favoring the Mt. Baker area for locally heavier showers in SW flow. The associated longwave upper level trough will pass through the Cascades Thursday morning, keeping us in a cool and showery pattern. Snow levels will be cool enough for light to locally moderate accumulations above 4000' Wednesday through Thursday. Weak shortwave ridging will pass over the area Thursday night but clouds ahead of the next system will prevent a clearing trend.
A strong jet will take aim at the Washington/Canadian border on Friday. Warm frontal moisture from a developing frontal system should move over the area Friday, with higher precipitation amounts expected over the Washington Cascades and less for Mt. Hood. Snow levels will begin a slow climb on Friday as the jet slides north.
