Weather Synopsis for Monday & Wednesday

An upper level ridge offshore will slide east of the Cascades this afternoon, quickly transitioning the area from our wet weekend to dry and warm weather on Monday. This will be a dirty ridge, with a fair amount of high clouds slipping underneath and creating some filtered sunshine. Freezing levels will soar to 7000 feet in the north and 10000 feet in the south over Mt. Hood this afternoon.

A Pacific frontal system offshore will approach the area Monday night with increasing clouds. The air mass should be fairly dry and clouds should slowly lower with light rain and snow developing in the morning hours on Tuesday. A new and rapidly developing low pressure system forming along the existing frontal boundary will curl toward Vancouver Island on Tuesday. This will bring a burst of wind to the Olympics and northwest Cascades Tuesday morning with the front lifting through the Cascades late morning. Showers should generally become light and scattered in the afternoon as a cooling trend ensues. Locally heavier showers should be seen in the Mt. Baker area.

Scattered showers will continue Tuesday night as another Pacific frontal system approaches the area.
