Weather Synopsis for Friday & Thursday

A flat upper level ridge over the eastern North Pacific directed a very shallow trough inland across southern British Columbia on Friday and the trough now sits east of the forecast area, with with a moist westerly flow and decreasing light rain and snow showers in its wake. Locally enhanced rain or snow may develop during the afternoon and last into the overnight hours near Snoqualmie Pass. LClouds extend southward to the Mt. Hood area. Skies have cleared in the Hurricane Ridge area and partial clearing is expected in the north Cascades by evening. Moderate crest-level winds should decrease in the afternoon, becoming light overnight on Friday.

Temperatures will continue to be significantly warmer in the southern part of the forecast area. Mid-elevations on Mt. Hood may not see temperatures drop below freezing on Friday night.

On Saturday, weak ridging develops over southern British Columbia. Some lingering clouds in the morning will give way to mostly clear skies. Winds will be light.

Saturday night a trough moving south down the northern British Columbia coastline will increase clouds with temperatures dropping sharply behind a cold frontal passage during the early morning hours on Sunday. W-NW winds will increase into the moderate range at crest-level.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Thursday night through Thursday

The southward-moving trough will remain over the region. The associated upper low will track into southern British Columbia and stall as winds wrapping around become moderate to occasionally strong out of the west at crest-level in the Cascades with generally cooling temperatures through Sunday and Sunday night as the cold front pushes south and east.

On Monday, a northwest flow with gradually decreasing moisture replaces the trough which shifts eastward. Overnight on Monday the flow shifts more westerly with continued moisture.

On Tuesday, ahead of a system approaching from the SW, the moist flow will shift north of our forecast area, leaving a mostly dry day.
