Weather Synopsis for Monday & Wednesday

Light snow showers are continuing and generally decreasing in a cool, weakly unstable airmass on Monday afternoon.  A shallow high pressure is building in and and during the overnight hours will bringing generally fair weather.

On Tuesday, a moist bow-shaped front arrives ahead of a low heading north to the Queen Charlotte Islands off the BC coast bringing increasing moderate precipitation and significant warming to the Olympics and Hood regions in the afternoon along with moderate to occasionally strong crest-level winds generally out of the south. The front will stall over the forecast region on Tuesday night, with moderate to occasionally heavy precipitation for the Cascades and further warming. Extended Weather Synopsis for Wednesday night through Wednesday

Wednesday features continued stormy weather as a stalled front sags southward as the large upper trough in the eastern Pacific continues to move east.. The frontal passage generally cuts off the easterly flow, but won't usher in much if any cooling on Wednesday until the evening hours, when a new low forming out ahead of the large trough offshore tracks toward Vancouver Island and brings a sharp cold front. Snow levels drop sharply to well below pass level by Thursday morning.

On Thursday, another upper and surface low pressure moves into our near coastal waters bring a frontal feature with it and more stormy weather with onshore moist flow through Thursday night.

On Friday, cold onshore westerly flow keeps the mountain-enhanced snow showers going as a developing low is poised to track into Western Washington Saturday.

Extended Weather

Olympics, Washington Cascades and Mt. Hood Area
Wednesday Light to moderate rain and snow on SW flow, particularly in the South Cascades. Elevated snow levels. Dropping snow levels and light snow showers Wednesday night. Thursday Light to moderate snow Thursday and becoming snow showers Thursday night. Friday W-SW flow with light to moderate snow showers.
