Weather Synopsis for Monday & Tuesday

The Pacific Northwest should be in for a day of fair weather with flat upper level ridging shifting east and a frontal system offshore around 130 W. Monday should feel like it could be Sunday's twin with mostly cloudy skies and periods of light rain and snow for the north Cascades and Olympics transitioning to partly to mostly sunny skies for areas further south like White Pass and Mt. Hood. Snow/freezing levels will generally be on the mild side.

The front should pass through the Cascades early Tuesday morning... and usher in a much cooler weather regime for the remainder of the week as long-wave troughing and much colder air aloft settles over the region. Post-frontal and orographic showers on Tuesday should allow for some accumulations especially along the west slopes.

A Puget Sound convergence zone is likely to form mid-day Tuesday and locally enhance snowfall totals somewhere in the Snoqualmie to Stevens vicinity.  The air mass will become unstable Tuesday afternoon and early evening... and there is a chance of thunderstorms in the forecast.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Tuesday night through Tuesday

Wednesday's weather should be very similar to Tuesday with a cool and somewhat unstable air mass over the region... except orographic showers should be a bit lighter along the west slopes Wednesday and flow aloft becoming more WNW.  A shortwave trough passing through Wednesday evening may enhance shower activity during this time.

Weak upper level ridging will pass over the area on Thursday... with some trapped low level moisture and a few lingering showers likely along the west slopes and sunnier skies likely over the east slopes.

A frontal boundary will begin sliding south Thursday night and Friday... and current forecast models have the front draping over the Olympics and north Cascades by Friday afternoon... with increasing clouds elsewhere with slowing rising snow levels during the day.

Extended Weather

Olympics, Washington Cascades and Mt. Hood area
Wednesday - Wednesday Night

Mostly cloudy with light rain and snow showers, occasionally moderate west slopes of the Cascades and Mt. Hood.  Chance of thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Thursday - Thursday Evening

Partly to mostly cloudy with isolated light rain and snow showers along the west slopes of the Cascades and Mt. Hood.

Thursday Night - Friday

Light rain and snow developing Olympics and north Cascades Thursday night and becoming light to moderate Friday. Cloudy elsewhere.
