We can expect increasing clouds tonight as a fast moving frontal system approaches the area from the NW. Light snow will increase tonight along the Olympics, west slopes of the Cascades and Passes, especially after midnight. Ridgeline winds out of the SW will become strong in most areas as well.
Stormy conditions will develop Thursday morning as a front sweeps through the central Cascades late morning and closer to mid-day for Mt Hood as it pushes south. There will be a little bit of a bump up in snow levels Thursday morning before the front, but ski area bases and lower mountain Passes will stay all snow during this evening. Winds will be even stronger on Thursday, first with a burst of S-SW winds west of the Cascade crest and then strong to even extreme westerlies behind the front. Steady snow during the morning hours will become showers by mid-day/early afternoon Thursday. A Puget Sound Convergence zone will enhance snowfall totals for the Mt Loop, Stevens and potentially Snoqualmie areas Thursday afternoon and night. Strong to extreme west winds will continue Thursday night as well. This should be a good dump of snow for most areas (higher west slopes, Passes and Mt Hood) with low snow levels and below normal temperatures helping to squeeze out higher snowfall totals than the precipitation forecast might suggest
Snow showers will become relatively lighter but will not cease on Friday. We'll stay in moist westerly flow and continue churn out clouds and snow showers, with additional snow accumulations along the west slopes of the Cascades and Mt Hood.

Extended Weather Synopsis
A cold upper trough diving south along the western coastline on Saturday and will change the flow aloft to southerly and maintain showers in the forecast. Showers should be relatively lighter on Saturday than in the short term. The upper trough will hang out through the weekend and early next week. We're more likely to see more sunshine on Sunday morning/mid-day before showers build up again in the afternoon.
The NWAC program is administered by the USDA-Forest Service and operates from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Seattle. NWAC services are made possible by important collaboration and support from a wide variety of federal, state and private cooperators.
The 5000’ temperature forecast does not imply a trend over the 12 hr period and only represents the max and min temperatures within a 12 hr period in the zone. The 6-hr snow level forecast, the forecast discussion, and weather forecast sections may add detail regarding temperature trends.
The snow level forecast represents the general snow level over a 6 hr time period. Freezing levels are forecast when precipitation is not expected.
*Easterly or offshore flow is highlighted with an asterisk when we expect relatively cool east winds in the major Cascade Passes. Easterly flow will often lead to temperature inversions and is a key variable for forecasting precipitation type in the Cascade Passes. Strong easterly flow events can affect terrain on a more regional scale.
Ridgeline winds are the average wind speed and direction over a 6 hr time period.
The wind forecast represents an elevation range instead of a single elevation slice. The elevation range overlaps with the near and above treeline elevation bands in the avalanche forecast and differs per zone.
Wind direction indicates the direction the wind originates or comes from on the 16-point compass rose.
Water Equivalent (WE) is the liquid water equivalent of all precipitation types; rain, snow, ice pellets, etc., forecast to the hundredth of an inch at specific locations. To use WE as a proxy for snowfall amounts, start with a snow to water ratio of 10:1 (10 inches of snow = 1 inch WE). Temperatures at or near freezing will generally have a lower ratio (heavy wet snow) and very cold temperatures can have a much higher ratio (dry fluffy snow).
