A very weak system moves into the area Sunday night. As of Sunday afternoon some light precipitation has reached the Olympic coastline. While most of this precipitation will skirt north of our mountains, the region can expect lowering and thickening clouds along with some very light rain and high-elevation snow for the Olympic mountains and west slopes of the northern Cascades. The chance of very weak convergence behind the fizzling front may touch off some very light snow near Stevens Pass early Monday. The front will not be strong enough to dislodge a deep cold air pool east of the Cascades, with light to occasionally moderate E flow ushering the cold air through the mountain gaps.
Expect the low clouds to partially clear during the mid-day hours with mid-level clouds returning to the Olympics and Mt. Baker areas late in the day. Clouds lower and thicken Monday night ahead of a more typical November storm system arriving on Tuesday. Models indicated the development of a low-pressure along an extended frontal boundary spreading increasing moderate to occasionally heavy rain and higher elevation snow from NW to SE across the region during the day Tuesday. Temperatures remain above normal west of the Cascades. However, Mt. Baker should be cold enough for 5-10 inches of wet snowfall above 4500 ft by the end of the day. Snoqualmie and Stevens Passes likely remain cold enough for 3-6" of snow (potentially mixed with ice) due to E flow while areas further south can expect less.

Extended Weather Synopsis
The cold front moves through Tuesday evening with moderate to occasionally heavy precipitation rapidly decreasing overnight. A westerly wind shift accompanying the frontal passage should bump snow levels above Snoqualmie and Stevens pass levels, but expect a messy transition. Limited cold air filters in behind the front. Expect clouds and very light rain/snow showers to linger along parts of the western slopes of the Cascades on Wednesday. A ridge builds with above-normal temperatures throughout the region Wednesday night and Thursday, but some moisture may slip over the top of the ridge into the Olympics and the northern Cascades.
The NWAC program is administered by the USDA-Forest Service and operates from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Seattle. NWAC services are made possible by important collaboration and support from a wide variety of federal, state and private cooperators.
The 5000’ temperature forecast does not imply a trend over the 12 hr period and only represents the max and min temperatures within a 12 hr period in the zone. The 6-hr snow level forecast, the forecast discussion, and weather forecast sections may add detail regarding temperature trends.
The snow level forecast represents the general snow level over a 6 hr time period. Freezing levels are forecast when precipitation is not expected.
*Easterly or offshore flow is highlighted with an asterisk when we expect relatively cool east winds in the major Cascade Passes. Easterly flow will often lead to temperature inversions and is a key variable for forecasting precipitation type in the Cascade Passes. Strong easterly flow events can affect terrain on a more regional scale.
Ridgeline winds are the average wind speed and direction over a 6 hr time period.
The wind forecast represents an elevation range instead of a single elevation slice. The elevation range overlaps with the near and above treeline elevation bands in the avalanche forecast and differs per zone.
Wind direction indicates the direction the wind originates or comes from on the 16-point compass rose.
Water Equivalent (WE) is the liquid water equivalent of all precipitation types; rain, snow, ice pellets, etc., forecast to the hundredth of an inch at specific locations. To use WE as a proxy for snowfall amounts, start with a snow to water ratio of 10:1 (10 inches of snow = 1 inch WE). Temperatures at or near freezing will generally have a lower ratio (heavy wet snow) and very cold temperatures can have a much higher ratio (dry fluffy snow).
