Weather Synopsis for Friday & Tuesday
High pressure rebounded to it's former glory from early this week as a weak circulation center trapped under the dominant high pressure spins to the east of our area. With freezing levels 10000-11500 ft on Friday, temperatures started the day above freezing in many areas. The exception is for locations influenced by a shallow inversion E of the Cascade Crest and near pass level through the mountain gaps. Expect full sunshine today with many of the aforementioned cold pool locations warming above freezing during the middle of the day.
However, with easterly gradients and offshore flow increasing, the cold air pool east of the Cascade Crest may thicken and slosh around slightly, bring cooler temperatures to some locations and increasingly sharp temperature contrasts over short distance (horizontally and vertically) as the day progresses. Winds may increase into the moderate range for places like Snoqualmie Pass by Friday afternoon and should continue to increase through Saturday morning as the high shifts east and a system approaches from the west. E winds are expected to peak in the moderate to strong range on Saturday morning in the locations favored by gap winds. By Saturday afternoon, gradually increasing SSW winds should help to mix the air masses slightly, allowing the E flow to begin to relent. Mid-level clouds ahead of the approaching system may reach the Olympics and Mt. Hood area late in the day.
