Weather Synopsis for Friday & Saturday

A SW-NE oriented front is draped over western Washington this morning. This slow moving frontal system mainly impacted the Mt. Baker area overnight with close to 2' of new snow and to a lesser extent the Olympics where around 6" accumulated at Hurricane Ridge. In both cases, the snow fell with decreasing winds.

The front has spread snow to the central Cascade Passes and precipitation will eventually work south to southwest Washington Cascades and Mt. Hood later this morning. Little to no precipitation is expected along the east slopes of the Cascades. The front's slow passage and will also bring a slow cooling trend for the same areas, with the coolest air over the northwest Cascades and Olympics slowly filtering south and east over the next 24 hours.

Shower activity should wane overnight but a cold upper low will sink south along the B.C. coast overnight. This will set the stage for convective showers on Saturday as the longwave upper level trough rotates through the Cascades in the afternoon. Shower activity should pick up in the afternoon with a few inches of snow possible in heavier showers, especially for the Olympics, west slopes of the Cascades and Mt. Hood area.
