Weather Synopsis for Saturday & Tuesday
Snow will keep falling in the mountains Saturday as westerly winds and an unstable atmosphere continue to pile moisture on the Cascades and produce locally heavy showers. Additional snow accumulations will be modest by Cascade standards with a few areas receiving 3-6". Most of this snow hangs up on the Cascade crest and only a few showers make it further east. As the day wears on, precipitation will become more scattered and the focus of the shower activity should shift further south. A Puget Sounds Convergence Zone could bring locally heavier snow near I90 Saturday afternoon/evening, but it doesn't appear to hang around too long. Saturday evening winds shift to the north and bringing much drier air into the region, all but shutting off any leftover snow showers.
You could see a few stray snowflakes overnight, but any lingering showers will quickly end as a high-pressure ridge tries to build over the area. The ridge doesn't quite get established before our next storm system, but it should give us a break in the precipitation. Sunday looks like a nice day with dry weather, cold temperatures, and light winds.
