Weather Synopsis for Wednesday & Thursday

A weak front passed through the area last night, flattening an upper level ridge over the area. This increased low level clouds on the west side of the Washington Cascades and managed to squeeze out a few light showers. Scattered light showers and low clouds will continue for the same areas this morning but will begin to lift and dry out in the afternoon. Upper level ridging trying to re-establish itself over the area today will trap the low level clouds most effectively from the northwest Cascades and south to Snoqualmie Pass, preventing a full sun breakout. The east slopes of the Cascades and the Mt. Hood area will see mostly sunny conditions and warmer temperatures in the pattern. Expect strong winds above Cascade crest level to continue along the east slopes of the Cascades from the Canadian border down to the Hwy 2 corridor.

The storm track directed into British Columbia will continue to battle the upper level ridge roughly positioned over our West Coast through the short term. The next frontal system tonight will glance the Mt. Baker area and the Olympics with some light rain and snow once again and temporarily increase low level clouds again along the west slopes of the Cascades. However, the ridge should amplify tomorrow shunting the moisture north and allowing for more sunshine across the region in the afternoon. Freezing levels will be on the rise once again especially for the south Washington Cascades and Mt. Hood area.
