Weather Synopsis for Monday & Friday

We are on the tail end of a major storm that brought 1-2' of snow to the west slopes of the Cascades, Passes and Olympics and 6-12" along the east slopes of the Cascades and Mt. Hood. Snow showers will continue to wind down this morning, heaviest near the Mt. Baker area and a Puget Sound Convergence Zone aimed into the Mountain Loop/Hwy2 corridor and much more isolated elsewhere. Strong west winds are still affecting most areas this morning but winds will also decrease later this morning and afternoon as high pressure builds offshore. Even as showers wind down, the upper level ridging building offshore today will help trap low level clouds along the west slopes of the Cascades while more sun is expected along the east slopes of the Cascades and down at Mt. Hood.

Clouds will scatter out tonight as the upper level ridge builds over the area. Dry conditions won't last long for some areas as a frontal system quickly approaches and spreads high clouds inland late tonight and tomorrow. This system is far weaker and looks to mainly bring some light precipitation to the Olympics, north Cascades with partly sunny conditions holding for the south Washington Cascades and Mt. Hood.  The frontal system will bring in much milder air for the same southern zones that see more sunshine tomorrow.
