Weather Synopsis for Wednesday night through Saturday

Clear skies will continue overnight as strong upper level ridging over the west coast splits the jet stream/storm track well to our north and south. Surface high pressure over the inland NW and lower pressure offshore will maintain cool easterly flow through the Cascade Passes and also the Columbia River gap affecting Mt. Hood through tomorrow morning.  East winds will decrease during the day, allowing freezing levels to rise along the west slopes of the Cascades and Mt. Hood in the afternoon. The coldest air will remain trapped along the east slopes of the Cascades north of I-90 for one more day.

Besides the moderating temperatures, the other main weather factor tomorrow will be cloud cover. A splitting frontal system will send high clouds over the region tomorrow, with cloudier conditions expected in the Mt. Hood area.

The ridge should flatten Thursday night, opening the door for increasing high clouds during the day over Washington State. Freezing levels will stay on the mild side Friday.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Saturday night through Saturday

A weak frontal system will approach from the NW Friday night and glance the Olympics and north Cascades with light rain and snow on Saturday. Very light or no precipitation is expected further south and east. A stronger weather system should develop offshore Saturday night with a front passing through Sunday. This has the potential to be a more potent storm as well as bring our recent dry streak to an end.
