Weather Synopsis for Tuesday night through Wednesday

Our pattern of cold clear nights and warm sunny days will continue throughout the week as a high-pressure ridge remains firmly in control of our weather. As a result, each day should feel remarkably like the last. Expect strong diurnal temperatures swings at mid and lower elevations. Clear skies at night should allow temperatures to quickly cool. This will create temperature inversions in many mountain valleys and passes. During the day, the sun will rapidly warm most areas, with above-freezing temperatures in some locations. As warmer air creeps into the region, you could encounter multiple freezing levels as you ascend. Mid elevation winds should continue out of the east and southeast Wednesday. Areas south of I90 could see an increase in the winds in the afternoon as the high-pressure center slips further east.

On Thursday, an approaching storm system will try to make its way to the coast, however, the protective ridge will hold it at bay. At most, we'll see a few mid and high clouds move across the area. Daytime highs appear a bit warmer on Thursday, but all-in-all the consistent pattern holds strong.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Wednesday night through Wednesday

The high pressure hangs with us through the end of the week, gradually slipping further east and weakening. If you ran out of sunscreen this week, don't fear. Clouds should begin to move back into the mountains sometime Friday ahead of our next system. Weather models tend to agree that a winter storm will impact the region sometime Saturday. It's a little bit far out to talk specifics in terms of timing and snow totals, but this system is worth keeping on your mind.
