Weather Synopsis for Friday & Tuesday

A cool and active pattern keeps the snow piling up...

The unstable airmass associated with an upper trough combined with a powerful westerly flow has been bringing moderate to heavy snow to parts of the west slopes of the Cascades and passes south to Mt. Hood. The central Cascades have been benefiting from convergence which has become more diffuse by Friday morning but should continue to help enhance snowfall through the morning hours as snowfall decreases across the region. Expect another 5-7" of snow from 4 AM to 4 PM on Wednesday for Snoqualmie Pass and Mt Hood with 3-5" for Stevens Pass and Paradise. Winds have been strong to very strong in high elevation locations, particularly east of the Cascade Crest and in southern parts of our region such as White Pass, Mission Ridge, and Mt. Hood. Expect winds to gradually ease during the day. Snow levels are generally 2000-3000 ft.

Very light lingering snow shower activity this evening should begin to ramp back up overnight as a strengthening warm front/cold front combination approaches.  The frontal system should bring increasing moderate to heavy rain and snow with the heaviest amounts forecast for the central Washington Cascades south through Mt. Hood. Snow levels bump up to 3000 ft in the central Washington Cascades with a potential mix of rain and snow Saturday afternoon at Snoqualmie Pass. Winds, which ramp up slightly once again late Saturday in association with the heavier precipitation.
