Weather Synopsis for Saturday night through Friday

A broad trough in the NE Pacific is steering a strong jetstream toward the Pacific Northwest, bringing active weather to our region and leaving us with chilly temperatures through early next week.

Saturday night, a frontal system moves in from the NW, bringing a round of pre-frontal rain and high elevation snow as it crosses the region from NW to SE, with WSW winds potentially stong on ridgetops and locations east of the Cascade Crest. The front initiates a cooling trend as a cool NW flow aloft keeps snow levels lowering into early next week.

Sunday, the majority of the rain and snow will shift south across Oregon with light post-frontal rain and snow showers decreasing across Washington.

Weather models generally agree that light snow showers should increase Sunday night as a trough digs southward across the region. The cold, unstable trough should bring further significant cooling through Monday, with snow showers and convergence activity (locally intense) focused on central/southern Washington and NW Oregon.
