Weather Synopsis for Tuesday night through Tuesday

Monday set record high temperatures throughout the Puget Sound region and then Tuesday exceeded Monday's records with both days exceeding the previous record for maximum wintertime temperature at Seatac airport.  Tuesday night may be the warmest night of the heat wave with strong subsidence warming. Wednesday is on track to be warmer than the pre-existing record once again, but slightly cooler than Tuesday, with the departing broad and strong high-pressure lingering just enough for the subsidence warming, hot air in place at all levels of the atmosphere, and gradually diminishing (moderate) easterly flow to keep temperatures elevated. A NW-SE oriented trough will be impacting California and the SW US and pushing the high pressure and associated ridge eastward into the great plains by Wednesday night. This will bring a shift to light westerly flow and further gradually cooling temperatures, which will continue through Thursday.

Throughout the forecast period, expect mostly sunny skies, above normal to record-setting temperatures, and a lack of precipitation.
