Weather Synopsis for Monday night through Tuesday
A very strong high-pressure is setting record high temperatures across the Puget Sound lowlands on Monday afternoon as the high drifts E across south-central BC and moderate to strong E flow warms across the Cascades barrier. The air accelerating through the mountain gaps will produce strong winds west of the gaps with very strong gusts, but the ESE winds will also be strong at many ridge-top locations. If you head to the mountains, prepare for warm weather, but factor in the wind chill in exposed locations.
Models forecast the warmest day of this March heat wave on Tuesday, featuring very slightly warmer temperatures than Monday across the region, with Wednesday cooling very slightly, but not appreciably. Both days may set high-temperature records across the region. We expect several more nights of very mild temperatures with lows in the 30s and 40s in many locations on Monday night and Tuesday night with temperatures cooling off more at night in the valleys east of the Cascade crest, but warming quickly during the days.
By Wednesday, an open trough under-cuts the high as the high slides east over Alberta. The trough will bring active weather to California and may spread some slight cloud-cover to coastal areas of our region during the day. The influence of the trough will also weaken the E flow during the day.
