Weather Synopsis for Monday & Tuesday
A strong high aloft drifts west to east across south-central British Columbia and dominates our weather pattern in the short-range bringing the region strong sunshine and near-record to record-setting high temperatures in many locations near and west of the Cascade Crest and Olympic mountains Monday and Tuesday. Higher surface pressure east of the Cascades drives moderate E winds through the Cascade passes, which will accelerate down-slope to produce locally strong to very strong winds west of the mountain gaps. The cold pool east of the Cascade Crest is quite shallow on Monday morning. While below-freezing temperatures exist in some locations, temperatures are inverted near the surface and above freezing in all locations at 5,000 ft where temperatures will be approximately 10 F warmer to the west of the crest. Strong sunshine will warm the surface and mix out any inversion conditions by late morning and the shallow inversion will re-develop during the evening hours. Little change to the weather pattern is expected over the short-term, but upper-elevation winds across the Cascade barrier may increase slightly to peak on Tuesday.
If you head to the mountains, prepare for warm weather, but factor in the wind chill.
