Weather Synopsis for Friday night through Friday

On Friday night, the Pacific Northwest will be under dry NW flow between a weak offshore high in the NE Pacific and a broad continental trough pushing a modified arctic air mass into our region. A lingering low pressure should spark a few snow showers in the Mt. Hood region before continuing eastward leaving the Pacific Northwest dry on Friday night. E and NE winds will gradually increase overnight as this air mass works its way into the region, further increasing into the moderate range by the end of the day Saturday and Saturday night. Freezing levels will gradually decrease through the period. The increasing winds at low-levels should result in more mixing and less of the fog and inversion conditions experienced Friday morning. However, the modified arctic frontal boundary may provide just enough lift to touch off some flurries on the east slopes of the Cascades on Saturday.

The cold air will continue to spill into the region through the mountain gaps through the day on Sunday, with mostly sunny skies in most areas on Sunday. Easterly flow should peak Sunday and Sunday night, producing dangerously cold wind-chills in exposed locations.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Friday night through Friday

Models form an upper low in the Washington State Vicinity but disagree on its location. Expect a continued surge of cool east flow on Monday and Monday night as the weak wears on and by Tuesday, temperatures begin to moderate slightly. The low does not tap into moisture until Tuesday night or Wednesday as a larger trough links up with the upper low.
