Weather Synopsis for Friday & Saturday

Below normal temperatures dominated February. The first day of March will be slightly below normal with freezing levels approaching the 3000 ft mark on Friday. During the day on Friday, a closed low that has been spinning for several days offshore moves SE into Oregon and rejoins the active southern jetstream. Mt. Hood may get a few snow flurries during the morning hours, but fair weather will be the rule. Inversion conditions set up in some areas Thursday night, creating fog in deeper valleys east of the Cascade Crest with E winds sucking this layer through the lower mountain gaps. This is likely to clear out Friday afternoon as winds switch westerly.

Friday night will be clear and cold with a reinforcing shot of cold air moving in as a broad trough over the Canadian interior pushes westward and a surface front moves in from the NE. This modified arctic intrusion should re-develop E flow in the passes late Friday night. The boundary will continue to supply cold air east of the Cascade crest, spilling some of it through the mountain gaps with light to moderate E flow continuing on Saturday. Temperatures will be notably cooler than Friday. Some very light snow is possible in the north and east Cascades as far south as Leavenworth. Less than an inch of snow accumulation is likely.
