Weather Synopsis for Thursday night through Saturday

The Pacific Northwest is experiencing a period of generally quiet and continued unseasonably cool weather with a major ridge blocking weather upstream.

A weak low continues to spin 250 miles off the coast of northern Oregon. A band of light snow showers over SW Washington and N Oregon on Thursday afternoon is weakening and will bring a few light snow showers to the Mt. Hood area overnight Thursday night. Elsewhere, skies will remain clear and temperatures surface temperatures will be quite chilly under clear skies with light winds, creating an inversion in some areas.

Friday will feature another sunny day with the offshore dropping SE into Oregon by Friday evening and exits the picture. Dry NNW flow develops over the area. The March sun will warm most areas by Friday afternoon and inversion conditions are not expected to persist. Freezing levels should approach pass levels in the afternoon.

Friday night a modified arctic front will drop SW and bring even colder air to the east slopes of the Cascades along with increasing Fraser outflow winds. Easterly flow through the Cascade gaps will be light but will begin to gradually increase. On Saturday, will feature another sunny day with cold temperatures moderating in the afternoon. Snow flurries or light snow are likely in the NE Cascades Saturday afternoon and evening, but accumulations will be very light.
