Weather Synopsis for Saturday & Sunday

A low pressure system positioned off of Vancouver Island this morning in NW flow aloft will weaken and drop south off of the Washington Coast today. Light snow showers should rotate inland, affecting most areas. The air mass is slightly unstable, so any sunbreaks this morning through mid-day should begin to fill back in with as clouds build in the afternoon. Snow levels remain quite low for late February.

The jet stream will remain pointed into Oregon through this period with a new low pressure system rapidly developing tonight off the Oregon coast and quickly traverse inland Sunday morning. This should deliver a more moderate shot of snow for Mt. Hood and extend up to the south Washington Cascades. Areas further north should see light and scattered snow showers again. Snow showers look more persistent along the east slopes of the Cascades were an upslope component will help squeeze out additional showers. There is some uncertainty with the northern extent of the more moderate precipitation so stay tuned for forecast updates.
