Weather Synopsis for Wednesday & Sunday

8 AM: Updated Mt. Hood weather for today for morning clouds lower slopes.

It's cold out there with widespread temperatures this morning in the single digits throughout the mountains. The coldest spot this morning is Washington Pass coming in at -3F at 6 am. The Pacific Northwest is on the backside of an upper level trough that's currently sliding over the Great Basin. Expect mostly sunny skies for all areas today. The exception is near Stevens and Snoqualmie Pass and the lower slopes of the east sides of the Cascades where areas of low clouds will stick around for at least the morning.

Upstream from us is an upper level ridge positioned offshore around 135W. We should be in for a quiet period of weather as the upper level ridge shifts towards us over the short term.  A weak and splitting frontal system offshore will run into the ridge tonight and Thursday sending periods of high clouds over the area later tonight through tomorrow. Freezing levels will rebound slightly Thursday afternoon as the cold air mass over our region begins to moderate slightly over time.
