Weather Synopsis for Monday & Thursday
A generally fair weather day will predominate as a weak ridge replaces a departing trough. The cool air moving in on a NW flow, combined with very weak instability or weak Vancouver Island convergence, will produce some decreasing low clouds and flurries across the Puget Sound and along the west slopes of the Cascades. No appreciable accumulation is expected. Winds will be light in the north and slightly breezier east of the Cascades and in the Mt. Hood area. Temperatures will be seasonable for the latter half of January.
Low clouds will clear out as a weakening system arriving from the WNW will spread increasing clouds overnight and a chance of light snow to the Olympics by Tuesday morning. As this system fizzles along the Washington coast Tuesday morning, another system will lift a warm front WNW during the day on Tuesday, bringing increasing light to moderate rain and snow with rising snow levels throughout the day. Moderate winds will increase throughout the day, gusting strong in some locations late in the day. Snoqualmie Pass should see snow through the early afternoon with a changeover to rain expected, while Stevens Pass will change over in the early evening hours.
