Weather Synopsis for Monday & Tuesday

Post-frontal showers in NW flow aloft racked up a nice 6-12 inches of snow across the west slopes of the Cascades including Mt. Hood through early Monday morning. New snowfall totals and shower activity quickly peters off east of the Cascade crest.

Showers should quickly ease off later this morning along with brisk westerly winds as an upper level ridge builds offshore. A general clearing and drying trend should occur across the area today with sunny skies forecast east of the crest and a mix of afternoon sun and low clouds along the west slopes of the Cascades.

The transitory upper level ridge will pass into the Intermountain West tonight and tomorrow, opening the door to mid and high level clouds to move up from the south overnight. A mature low pressure system well offshore will spin light warm frontal moisture over the area on Tuesday favoring south slopes and the volcanoes.  Offshore easterly flow will ramp up quickly overnight through Tuesday and E-SE winds should increase quickly near and west of the Cascade crest from Snoqualmie Pass and southward. The easterly flow will also mute the warming trend during the day. There is a chance for mixed precipitation at Mt. Hood as warmer air overrides cooler air near the surface.
