Weather Synopsis for Saturday & Monday
A slow-moving, deep and broad trough sits over the Pacific Northwest and near shore waters on Saturday morning.
Within the broad trough, a low moves SE off the Oregon coast on Saturday morning, but a piece of energy has ejected, bringing an upper trough across Western Washington on Saturday morning with a surface low over south Central Washington. This weather feature should continue light snow into the mid-morning hours hours in many areas of the Cascades and into the late morning hours in parts of the central Cascades where convergence will produce slightly higher snowfall rates in some areas between Snoqualmie and Stevens passes. Isolated snow showers are possible in the afternoon with a weakly unstable air mass.
Light snow should also taper off this morning in the Mt. Hood area, but they are likely to be brushed by another round of light to occasional moderate snow during the afternoon and evening hours before a clearing trend will begin after midnight.
Over Washington State, Saturday afternoon will see increasing sun breaks with scattered cumulus clouds and skies will clear Saturday night with light westerly winds and the weather features departed either south or east of our region.
Sunday will see increasing clouds ahead of an upper level trough arriving on NW flow that will bring increasing light snow to the region on Sunday night along with light to moderate W-SW crest-level winds.
