Weather Synopsis for Sunday & Saturday

A closed and vertically stacked upper and surface low is located 300 miles west of the mouth of the Columbia River early Sunday morning. The system is relatively moisture-starved and compact with most of the precipitation remaining offshore, except a few very narrow bands of light snow that are moving westward and will dissipate during the early morning hours. Mid-level clouds are creating mostly cloudy skies across much of western Washington and Oregon on Sunday morning.

As the closed low drops southeast to the central Oregon Coast this morning, flow will switch to northerly as a large high pressure re-builds south Alaska. Most locations should witness a clearing trend on Sunday with the exception of Mt. Hood where mostly cloudy skies may linger through the evening hours.

The northerly flow will bring a chance of light snow to the north slope of the Olympic mountains during the morning and early afternoon hours. Light easterly flow will develop across the Cascade passes during the afternoon.

Sunday night the lower-level flow easterly flow increases slightly, allowing colder area to infiltrate western Washington from the east side of the Cascades and BC coast range. Northerly flow continues aloft.

On Monday, the offshore high pressure tilts into British Columbia, keeping the sunny weather  in place and wither moderating temperatures over the Pacific Northwest.

On Monday night,  the high slides southward over the region, bringing further moderation aloft, with a good inversion likely to set up, particularly on the east slopes of the Cascades.
