Weather Synopsis for Sunday & Sunday
A rapidly developing low curled toward the northern tip of Vancouver Island Saturday night lifting a warm front over our area. Rain was the predominant precipitation type on Sunday with over 2 inches of water at Mt. Baker since 2 am! Winds were also quite strong with this system. The cold front is pushing through early this afternoon and rain has changed to snow at the higher elevation stations as of 2 pm. Washington Pass has stayed near or below freezing through this event while other Cascade east slope stations have warmed. Snow levels in the northeast Cascades should briefly peak this afternoon with possible rain mixing in at the Washington Pass level.
Light to moderate snow showers and a cooling trend will follow Sunday night with winds easing as the upper level trough traverses the region. A quick 3-6 inches of snow, perhaps a bit more at Baker, is possible late Sunday afternoon through Monday morning.
A transient upper level ridge will quickly build on Monday with light showers decreasing during the day. However plenty of clouds and moisture will be trapped along the west slopes of the Cascades near the crest. Afternoon sunbreaks are more likely over the south and central Cascades and Cascade east slopes.
The next frontal system offshore will begin to brush the Olympics and north Cascades with warm frontal precipitation Monday night.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Sunday night through Sunday
A fast moving frontal system will sweep through the area Tuesday morning with only a slight bump in snow levels before colder air and more showery weather moves in for the latter half of Tuesday. Showers should diminish Tuesday night as weak upper level ridging builds offshore. Wednesday had been looking dry but now very light rain and snow are likely to brush the north Cascades and Olympics ahead of the next Pacific frontal system. The frontal system will flatten the ridge on Thursday as precipitation spreads over the area in westerly flow aloft. There may be a more significant warming trend with this system.
Extended Weather
