Weather Synopsis for Saturday & Monday
A developing low pressure well offshore will track N-NE toward Vancouver island tonight. This storm system will punch on the mild side for our mountains thanks to the quasi-stationary upper level ridge parked over the Baja Peninsula that is steering warmer air and SW flow over the region.
Warm frontal precipitation has begun to spread over the region from south to north this afternoon. Precipitation should increase for all areas this evening, however look for a lull in the precipitation from Snoqualmie Pass and south during the morning hours as the warm front lifts north. Locally heavy precipitation will continue in the Mt. Baker area during this time.
Mild air will flood into the region tonight and it won't be until the trailing frontal passage Sunday afternoon that we see a meaningful cooling trend. Moderate to strong offshore flow may allow for some initial mixed precipitation in the Passes Saturday evening. Snow levels will peak in the early morning hours before gradually lowering throughout the day on Sunday. Alpine winds look very strong, especially over Mt. Hood as the jet traverses over central Oregon on Sunday. As an open trough moves over the region Sunday night, further cooling should ensue with showers.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Monday night through Monday
On Monday, leftover showers and onshore flow will keep the west slopes of the Cascades cloudy despite flat ridging building over the West Coast. Clouds and showers will diminish further east of the crest. A fast moving frontal system will approach Monday night and sweep through the area by mid-day Tuesday. There should be a slight warming trend with only a modest bump in snow levels early Tuesday morning before snow levels drop back down Tuesday afternoon. We might actually be in for a dry day on Wednesday as strong upper level ridging builds aloft.
