Weather Synopsis for Saturday & Monday
A developing low pressure well offshore will track N-NE toward Vancouver island tonight. This storm system will predominately punch on the mild side for our mountains thanks to the quasi-stationary upper level ridge parked over the Baja Peninsula that is steering warmer air into the region.
Warm frontal precipitation will spread over the region from south to north today and increase overnight. Mild air will flood into the region tonight, and it won't be until the trailing frontal passage Sunday afternoon that we see a meaningful cooling trend. Moderate to strong offshore flow may allow for some initial mixed precipitation in the Passes Saturday night including spotty freezing rain. Snow levels will peak in the early morning hours before gradually lowering throughout the day on Sunday. Alpine winds look very strong, especially over Mt. Hood as the jet traverses over central Oregon on Sunday. As an open trough moves over the region Sunday night, further cooling should ensue with showers.
