Weather Synopsis for Monday & Tuesday

The dominant eastern Pacific upper level ridge responsible for our dry winter thus far looks to be flattened through the end of the week...allowing the door open to systems arriving in westerly flow.

Upper level ridging over the west coast this morning has shifted east as a cluster of weak systems offshore has spread increasing mid and high level clouds today.  Moderate easterly flow through the passes and Columbia river gap will keep these affected areas colder than the warm free-air freezing levels seen elsewhere.

Light precipitation should spread inland by early Tuesday morning.  A weak closed upper low is forecast to move through Oregon/Washington border Tuesday.  The heaviest precipitation looks to be from Mt. Hood through Mt. Rainier Tuesday afternoon and evening.  Easterly flow through the passes and moderate freezing levels may allow for mixed precipitation types at Snoqualmie.  A stronger system should start to spread light rain and snow into the Olympics late Tuesday night.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Tuesday night through Tuesday

The frontal system on Wednesday should bring a period of moderate to heavy precipitation in southwest flow and slightly cooler snow levels with increasing winds Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night. Showers should taper down Wednesday night but yet another fast moving system should slide over the Pacific Northwest on Thursday and then turn to showers Thursday night. The upper level ridge will begin to rebound offshore on Friday, pushing the next fast moving frontal system into British Columbia, with light rain and snow affecting mainly the central Cascades and northward. This system should be accompanied by a warming trend.
