Our extended streak of warm sunny weather continues. With generally light winds and hardly a cloud in the sky, temperatures once again climbed into the 50s and 60s around the mountains on Sunday. This pattern won't change for a few more days as a persistent high pressure ridge remains camped out over Washington.
Sunday night, clear skies will allow temperatures to cool slightly as inversions return to the mountain valleys and passes. Most mid-elevation sites will stay well above freezing and struggle to even dip into the low 40s. A few valley locations east of the Cascade Crest have the best chance of dropping below freezing.
Tomorrow expect a rinse and repeat of today. You'll find plenty of sunshine, light winds, and temperatures that hover in the upper 40s to low 60s.
The high pressure ridge starts to flatten Monday night into Tuesday. Temperatures should very slowly begin to drop. Even still, most areas will remain above freezing for the 5th or even 6th day in a row! You'll also notice winds turn more westerly and begin to increase. While not particularly windy, it will be a marked shift from the previous few days. Tuesday will be our last spring-like day in this stretch before a pattern shift on Wednesday.

Extended Weather Synopsis
The pattern begins to change as an approaching trough attempts to shove the high pressure ridge out of its way. This could take some time. Clouds and winds should increase Tuesday night into Wedensday morning as temperatures very slowly fall. Light precipitation appears to arrive in the mountains during the day with more rapidly cooling temperatures. A cold front swings through the area during the late afternoon and early evening, bringing periods of heavier precipitation. While a stark difference from our current weather, this first storm doesn't appear particularly cold. Snow levels hover in the 4000 to 5000ft range. Showers continue Thursday, with a cool and active weather pattern expected for the remainder of the week.
The NWAC program is administered by the USDA-Forest Service and operates from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Seattle. NWAC services are made possible by important collaboration and support from a wide variety of federal, state and private cooperators.
The 5000’ temperature forecast does not imply a trend over the 12 hr period and only represents the max and min temperatures within a 12 hr period in the zone. The 6-hr snow level forecast, the forecast discussion, and weather forecast sections may add detail regarding temperature trends.
The snow level forecast represents the general snow level over a 6 hr time period. Freezing levels are forecast when precipitation is not expected.
*Easterly or offshore flow is highlighted with an asterisk when we expect relatively cool east winds in the major Cascade Passes. Easterly flow will often lead to temperature inversions and is a key variable for forecasting precipitation type in the Cascade Passes. Strong easterly flow events can affect terrain on a more regional scale.
Ridgeline winds are the average wind speed and direction over a 6 hr time period.
The wind forecast represents an elevation range instead of a single elevation slice. The elevation range overlaps with the near and above treeline elevation bands in the avalanche forecast and differs per zone.
Wind direction indicates the direction the wind originates or comes from on the 16-point compass rose.
Water Equivalent (WE) is the liquid water equivalent of all precipitation types; rain, snow, ice pellets, etc., forecast to the hundredth of an inch at specific locations. To use WE as a proxy for snowfall amounts, start with a snow to water ratio of 10:1 (10 inches of snow = 1 inch WE). Temperatures at or near freezing will generally have a lower ratio (heavy wet snow) and very cold temperatures can have a much higher ratio (dry fluffy snow).
