Light warm frontal moisture will continue this evening and overnight, especially near and along the east slopes of the Cascades as the feature lifts northward. Cool easterly flow will help lower snow levels down to 2000-3000' along the east slopes of the Cascades. It will be slightly warmer on the west side of the Cascades Saturday night.
A disorganized N-S frontal boundary will approach our coast on Sunday. Some forecast models suggest this boundary splits with a weak surface low wandering inland near the mouth of the Columbia River and focusing more precipitation for the Olympics and south Washington Cascades in the morning. Precipitation in the Mt Hood area could be locally heavy on Sunday. Eventually, the upper level trough swings through Sunday afternoon bringing about a shift to moderate to strong westerly winds and steadier shower activity near and west of the Cascade crest. Late in the day, we're likely to see less cloud cover east of the Cascade crest with downsloping/drying east of the crest.
Further shower activity and cooling will take place Sunday night with additional snowfall accumulation below all the major Cascade Passes and moderate to strong westerly ridgeline winds. A Puget Sound Convergence zone may form overnight and focus on Stevens and/or Snoqualmie Pass.
That cool westerly flow won't last too long in this active pattern. Light warm frontal moisture draping down from a front system aimed into south central B.C. will keep light snow and cloudy conditions for the Washington Cascades. While snowfall doesn't look too heavy during the day, it does look continuous.

Extended Weather Synopsis
That aforementioned frontal boundary will sag south and take aim at our next of the woods Monday night and Tuesday. We should see some moderate to heavy precipitation along the west slopes of the Cascades. This won't be a warm storm but snow levels will creep up on Tuesday as precipitation rates increase.
The associated cold front will swing through Tuesday night with significant post-frontal showers and cooler temperatures. Lighter showers are likely to carry over into Wednesday along the west slopes of the Cascades.
The NWAC program is administered by the USDA-Forest Service and operates from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Seattle. NWAC services are made possible by important collaboration and support from a wide variety of federal, state and private cooperators.
The 5000’ temperature forecast does not imply a trend over the 12 hr period and only represents the max and min temperatures within a 12 hr period in the zone. The 6-hr snow level forecast, the forecast discussion, and weather forecast sections may add detail regarding temperature trends.
The snow level forecast represents the general snow level over a 6 hr time period. Freezing levels are forecast when precipitation is not expected.
*Easterly or offshore flow is highlighted with an asterisk when we expect relatively cool east winds in the major Cascade Passes. Easterly flow will often lead to temperature inversions and is a key variable for forecasting precipitation type in the Cascade Passes. Strong easterly flow events can affect terrain on a more regional scale.
Ridgeline winds are the average wind speed and direction over a 6 hr time period.
The wind forecast represents an elevation range instead of a single elevation slice. The elevation range overlaps with the near and above treeline elevation bands in the avalanche forecast and differs per zone.
Wind direction indicates the direction the wind originates or comes from on the 16-point compass rose.
Water Equivalent (WE) is the liquid water equivalent of all precipitation types; rain, snow, ice pellets, etc., forecast to the hundredth of an inch at specific locations. To use WE as a proxy for snowfall amounts, start with a snow to water ratio of 10:1 (10 inches of snow = 1 inch WE). Temperatures at or near freezing will generally have a lower ratio (heavy wet snow) and very cold temperatures can have a much higher ratio (dry fluffy snow).
