Waning moisture from the dregs of a warm front will continue on and off overnight, with slightly wetter conditions down in the Mt Hood area. Snow levels will continue their slow and steady march higher overnight as well. The drip of warm frontal moisture will end from south to north across the area on Tuesday, as strong upper level ridging noses from along the coast to the inland NW during the day. Light rain or snow may linger into Tuesday morning for the northwest Cascades.
A clearing trend will accompany the high freezing levels in varying forms on Tuesday afternoon, with more sunshine for the south Washington Cascades transitioning to broken skies (mostly cloudy) further north. The upper level ridge will help squash and trap some of the low level moisture Tuesday, preventing a full-break out in some areas. 5000' afternoon mountain high temps will be in the 40s across the region.
Tuesday night will be dry as we wait for a quick moving and sharp front to arrive. Freezing levels will peak in the 7000'-10,000' range Tuesday night. Clouds will increase on Wednesday with light precipitation beginning late morning or mid-day. A sharp front will pass through during the afternoon hours bringing a short burst of moderate rain and snow, cooling temperatures and strong westerly winds.

Extended Weather Synopsis
Post-frontal showers and brisk westerly winds will taper off quickly Wednesday night. Colder air won't have much time to settle into the region as a new upper level ridge builds over the West Coast on Thursday. Thursday should be a fair early spring day with periods of high clouds and moderating temperatures. While we don't have any massive storms on tap, we'll be in a progressive weather pattern with another frontal system approaching the coastline on Friday. We can expect increasing clouds on Friday as well as increasing alpine winds ahead of the next weather system.
The NWAC program is administered by the USDA-Forest Service and operates from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Seattle. NWAC services are made possible by important collaboration and support from a wide variety of federal, state and private cooperators.
The 5000’ temperature forecast does not imply a trend over the 12 hr period and only represents the max and min temperatures within a 12 hr period in the zone. The 6-hr snow level forecast, the forecast discussion, and weather forecast sections may add detail regarding temperature trends.
The snow level forecast represents the general snow level over a 6 hr time period. Freezing levels are forecast when precipitation is not expected.
*Easterly or offshore flow is highlighted with an asterisk when we expect relatively cool east winds in the major Cascade Passes. Easterly flow will often lead to temperature inversions and is a key variable for forecasting precipitation type in the Cascade Passes. Strong easterly flow events can affect terrain on a more regional scale.
Ridgeline winds are the average wind speed and direction over a 6 hr time period.
The wind forecast represents an elevation range instead of a single elevation slice. The elevation range overlaps with the near and above treeline elevation bands in the avalanche forecast and differs per zone.
Wind direction indicates the direction the wind originates or comes from on the 16-point compass rose.
Water Equivalent (WE) is the liquid water equivalent of all precipitation types; rain, snow, ice pellets, etc., forecast to the hundredth of an inch at specific locations. To use WE as a proxy for snowfall amounts, start with a snow to water ratio of 10:1 (10 inches of snow = 1 inch WE). Temperatures at or near freezing will generally have a lower ratio (heavy wet snow) and very cold temperatures can have a much higher ratio (dry fluffy snow).
