Weather Synopsis for Monday & Friday

A strong ridge of high pressure over the area continues to slowly shift east of the Cascades this afternoon. Most NWAC stations have already risen into the 50s as of 1 pm PDT under mostly sunny skies. Freezing levels should eventually top out in the 8000-10000+ range today.

A slow moving frontal boundary currently around 135W will sag south and east across the area on Tuesday.  Light precipitation will start first for the Olympics and north Cascades Tuesday morning and eventually reach the central and south Cascades in the afternoon.  Mt. Hood should mainly see increasing clouds during the day on Tuesday but remain dry.  The frontal system will bring about a quick increase in SW winds along with a burst of moderate precipitation in the afternoon and early evening.  Showers and rapidly falling snow levels will occur behind the front Tuesday night...but shower activity should quickly diminish into early Wednesday morning.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Friday night through Friday

On Wednesday, cool NW flow aloft and onshore flow at the surface should make for a mostly cloudy day along the west slopes and Mt. Hood along with some spotty showers.  On Thursday, a frontal boundary hung up near Vancouver Island may bring periods of light precipitation to the north Cascades...but should mostly deliver more cloud cover to northern sections...with sunnier skies and warmer freezing levels expected further south.  A shortwave trough should dive down in the northwest flow on Friday...briefly pushing snow levels downward along with scattered showers across the area.
