A deep trough offshore continues to focus an active and moist SSW flow on the Pacific northwest. With the deep trough off the coast and colder air east of the Cascades, the east flow will continue throughout the forecast period and will likely peak on Sunday.
Heavy snow favored Mt. Baker on Saturday. As of 1 PM, Mt. Baker had picked up 11" of snow since midnight. Other areas saw far less snowfall during the day. The same front remains stalled over the region Saturday night, bringing periods of light to moderate rain and snow (locally heavy in the Mt. Baker area). Meanwhile, another stronger cold front will reach the Olympic Mountains in the early morning hours, shifting heavier rain and snow further west. That front is likely to bring significant snow to Hurricane Ridge and heavy snow to Mt. Baker on Sunday. Temperatures continue to gradually warm, but the east flow is likely to keep Snoqualmie Pass all snow during the daytime hours. Sunday will be windier with moderate winds across a wider swath of the region.
Sunday night, warm air continues to gradually raise the freezing levels and Snoqualmie Pass should change to rain. Pulses of moisture continue to move northward across the region on SSW flow. Mt. Baker and the Cascade volcanoes remain favored by the flow pattern.
On Monday, the trough starts to move into the region, but moist SSW continues. Expect rain to continue at Snoqualmie Pass level with snow levels around 4000 ft. Winds should ease relative to Sunday.

Extended Weather Synopsis
The gradually weakening offshore trough slowly settles into the Pacific Northwest Monday night bringing a slow cooling trend, lighter SW winds and lighter rain and snow shower activity. The trough axis passes over the region by Monday afternoon, switching light upper-level flow to the WNW. The pressure gradient tightens as the first in a series of storms rides down the backside of a persistent high well off the coast of California. This feature brings increasing moderate snowfall Tuesday. Snow should gradually decrease Wednesday.
The NWAC program is administered by the USDA-Forest Service and operates from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Seattle. NWAC services are made possible by important collaboration and support from a wide variety of federal, state and private cooperators.
The 5000’ temperature forecast does not imply a trend over the 12 hr period and only represents the max and min temperatures within a 12 hr period in the zone. The 6-hr snow level forecast, the forecast discussion, and weather forecast sections may add detail regarding temperature trends.
The snow level forecast represents the general snow level over a 6 hr time period. Freezing levels are forecast when precipitation is not expected.
*Easterly or offshore flow is highlighted with an asterisk when we expect relatively cool east winds in the major Cascade Passes. Easterly flow will often lead to temperature inversions and is a key variable for forecasting precipitation type in the Cascade Passes. Strong easterly flow events can affect terrain on a more regional scale.
Ridgeline winds are the average wind speed and direction over a 6 hr time period.
The wind forecast represents an elevation range instead of a single elevation slice. The elevation range overlaps with the near and above treeline elevation bands in the avalanche forecast and differs per zone.
Wind direction indicates the direction the wind originates or comes from on the 16-point compass rose.
Water Equivalent (WE) is the liquid water equivalent of all precipitation types; rain, snow, ice pellets, etc., forecast to the hundredth of an inch at specific locations. To use WE as a proxy for snowfall amounts, start with a snow to water ratio of 10:1 (10 inches of snow = 1 inch WE). Temperatures at or near freezing will generally have a lower ratio (heavy wet snow) and very cold temperatures can have a much higher ratio (dry fluffy snow).
