Weather Synopsis for Sunday & Sunday

A cool and slightly airmass continues to move into the region on a westerly flow. Convergence maintained the central Washington Cascades overnight but has fizzled by the early morning hours, leaving us with mostly light snow and some very weak convergence in Skagit County on Sunday morning. Light snow in the north and the central Cascades should spread out into areas further south (Mt. Rainier and Mt. Hood) later in the morning as a disturbance starts moving into the region brings more enhancement with broader forcing. Snow levels are in the 1500 to 2500 ft range today. Winds continue to accelerate east of the Cascade Crest with a gradually easing but continued wind event for Mt. Hood.

The disturbance arriving later today brings moderate to heavy snow to many areas of the Cascades West slopes and Passes overnight with good model agreement for strong convergence in many areas of the central Washington Cascades where some areas could see up to a foot of lower density new snow by morning (but the locations are difficult to predict). Snow showers and convergence generally ease Monday morning and end by the end of the day with decreasing clouds expected throughout the region bringing partly cloudy weather by Monday afternoon as a ridge building offshore switches flow increasingly northerly and cuts off the supply of moisture.
