Weather Synopsis for Sunday night through Friday
Updated 4:45 PM: Wind discussion.
A strong ridge of high pressure sits offshore on Sunday bringing a mostly sunny day to our region with dry NNW flow aloft and generally light winds at the surface. Popcorn cumulus clouds developed and banked up against the mountains with a strengthening W to E pressure gradient. Winds should peak in the evening hours with a pulse of energy bringing moderate NW winds to alpine areas, particularly in the central and east Cascades.
Cloud cover should generally clear quickly Sunday evening, providing a mostly clear and cool night. Inversion conditions are likely to develop into Monday morning, creating widespread low clouds in the Puget Sound lowlands and it is possible there is a slight chance that some of these will get sucked through the lower Cascade Passes such as Snoqualmie.
Monday should be warmer than Sunday in most locations with a freezing level making it up to 4000-5500 ft. By afternoon, any inversion should reverse, allowing weak cumulus clouds development once again.
A weak feature approaching in the NNW flow should bring increasing clouds Monday night with a chance of very light snow for the west and north Washington Cascades Tuesday, with the chances for snow moving southward Tuesday evening. Around an inch of snow accumulation is expected with snow levels hovering around 3000 ft. East of the Cascade Crest, expect some sunshine. Winds will pick up and should be light to moderate at Pass level but may be moderate to strong out of the WNW in the alpine.
