Weather Synopsis for Sunday & Saturday
A strong ridge of high pressure sits offshore on Sunday bringing a sunny day to our region with dry northerly flow aloft and generally light winds at the surface. Clear skies overnight allowed temperatures to drop into the 10's and 20's at most NWAC stations, leading to a cool start to the day on Sunday. Temperatures should moderate with diurnal warming as freezing levels topping out in the 3500-4500 ft range in the Washington Cascades and the 5500 ft range at Mt Hood. With the strong high pressure, westerly gradients through the Passes increase slightly in the afternoon and evening hours, bringing some 10-20 mph winds through Snoqualmie Pass before easing up early Monday morning. The clear skies with a few thin, high clouds continue Sunday night with sunny weather expected again on Monday.
An inversion should develop in many areas Sunday night and remains into Monday morning with the potential for some slightly above freezing temperatures in the 5000-7000 ft range with below-freezing temperatures below 5000 ft. Diurnal warming heats up the lower atmosphere by Monday afternoon as the mid-levels of the atmosphere cool. Overall, Monday should be slightly warmer than Sunday with light winds.
