Weather Synopsis for Saturday night through Tuesday

A weak north-south oriented frontal band offshore and extending from a low pressure system near the Alaskan Panhandle is running into an upper level ridge, spreading high clouds over the area. High clouds will stick around overnight as the frontal band dissipates and the upper level ridge begins to rebuild offshore.

On Sunday, high pressure will dominate the weather pattern. This high amplitude ridge will split the jet stream around the Pacific Northwest sending storm tracks well to our north or south for the next few days. Offshore flow will increase during the day on Sunday with breezy east winds picking up in the usual locations from roughly Stevens Pass and south to Mt. Hood.  That said, freezing levels will continue to rise on Sunday under sunny skies.

Monday should be slightly warmer but offshore easterlies are expected to approach the moderate range in the Cascade Passes, in southwest Cascades, and the Mt. Hood area.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Tuesday night through Tuesday

The blocking upper level ridge will shift over the Canadian Rockies Tuesday but little change is expected in the sensible weather over the Pacific Northwest with more warmth and dry conditions forecast.  By Wednesday, a weak elongated frontal system will approach the nearshore waters. The front will likely not be strong enough to break down the ridge and send precipitation inland, but we may see increasing clouds and the winds aloft should shift to the south along with weakening offshore flow through the Cascade Passes.
