Weather Synopsis for Thursday night through Sunday

Precipitation associated with a frontal feature will continue lifting northward, reaching the north Cascades and Olympics this afternoon. More showery precipitation will continue for all areas overnight, peaking as a secondary frontal feature in this messy low pressure complex rotates up from the SW and through the Cascades mid-late Friday morning. Brief and partial clearing may occur late morning through mid-day before afternoon clouds and showers return as a cool upper level trough sits over the area.

Moderate to strong easterly winds will begin to relax tonight after the warm front's passage and Cascade Pass level flow will switch to westerly behind the secondary front Friday morning. This will allow snow levels to mix more uniformly throughout the region in the 2000-3000 ft range.

Shower activity should generally wane Friday night. On Saturday, an upper level low digging off the coast will once again set the stage for increasing clouds and scattered showers in a marginally unstable air mass. Less cloud cover is likely for the lower terrain further east of the Cascade crest. Snow levels should be a notch lower on Saturday with a slightly cooler air mass overhead.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Sunday night through Sunday

On Sunday as the upper low digs further south and positions the broad upper trough over the southwestern US, we should see decreasing mountain showers and an uptick in afternoon sunbreaks. The caveat will be along the east slopes of the Cascades where light low-level upslope flow will keep low clouds and light showers in the forecast. Colder, drier air will work it's way south from the Fraser Valley late Saturday night through Sunday.

Monday may be the best weather day of the holiday weekend as shortwave upper level ridging upstream Sunday night quickly moves over the area Monday with generally fair weather expected.
