Weather Synopsis for Saturday & Friday

A blocking pattern over the Central Pacific continues to allow a modified arctic air mass to bring cold lows across our region with snow levels at sea level throughout the forecast period.

The current low is drifting south, just off the coast of Oregon on Saturday with moisture wrapping around the system, keeping periods of light to moderate snow along with moderate winds in the forecast for the mountains as strong winds buffet ridges east of the Cascade Crest. Snow should be ending in the in the North Cascades early in the day and E and NE flow focuses snowfall on the E slopes of the Cascades and the N and E slopes of the Olympics where light to moderate snow is in the forecast. Mt. Hood, much closer to the low center will get light to moderate snow throughout the day.

Saturday night, the low moves south to the SW corner of Oregon with light snow showers lingering in the SE Washington Cascades and Mt. Hood areas. Winds will decrease and become light. 

On Sunday, very light snow is expected to linger on the east slopes from the departing system and should be reinforced along the west slopes by the end of the day as another low develops under cyclonic flow over Vancouver Island bringing an increase in winds to the southern part of the forecast area.
